Options range from the extravagant styles of relaxation, to quaint bed and breakfasts, rental homes, and cottages.Depending on which resort you select, you could enjoy any number of amenities.

Mauna Kea Resort and Waikoloa Beach Resort are Big Island Hotels that each boast their own masterfully-designed golf courses if you’re looking for a low key yet sporty way to spend four hours. Many of the resorts also serve as day spas, allowing you to drink from the fountain of youth through physical and spiritual exercises, from massage to meditation. And, of course, what would a Hawaiian island resort be without beach access? From the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel to the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, there are dozens of Big Island hotels, resorts, inns, and other lodgings that offer immediate paths to the water and ocean-facing rooms.

When it comes to places to stay, you have many options from which to choose during your next vacation to the Big Island. From luxury resorts and hotels, to down-home inns and bed and breakfasts, the Big Island provides weary travelers with countless choices. To be sure, relaxation and comfort are here to be had by any and all.

Big Island Hotels – Kohala and Kona

Depending on which resort you select, you could enjoy any number of amenities. The most popular places to stay on the Big Island are located along the Kohala and Kona Coasts—that is, on the western side of the island. Here, warmth, sun, and arid conditions make for an unbelievably relaxing getaway. For starters, you can choose from one of several large resorts in Kailua-Kona, most of which offer spacious rooms with attached, open-air lanais on which to experience the Big Island’s famous breeze, as well as views of the mountains to the east or the Pacific Ocean to the west. Also prevalent among these luxury hotels are oceanfront pools, on-site fitness centers and spas, and evening luaus, where you can feast on kalua pig, lomi salmon, and other local fare, plus watch hula dancers and other performers.

For another type of experience, try spending a few nights in a one- or two-bedroom villa. This type of accommodation is popular on the Big Island, and combines the best of intimacy and privacy with the attractions found at multi-level hotels and resorts. One village in Kailua-Kona offers eight swimming pools, hot tubs, close to a dozen tennis courts, and a gym. In or attached to the units, meanwhile, are lanais or patios, washers and dryers, and complete kitchens. Really, it’s the best of both worlds—a slice of home in the middle of paradise!

Big Island Hotels – Hilo

Castle HiloClear on the other side of the Big Island is Hilo. Accommodations here tend to be more affordable, and quaint rather than ornate. Still, you’ll find a fair share of ocean views out to Hilo Bay, and beautifully manicured properties bursting with ferns and trees, thanks to the higher levels of rainfall in the region. A few of these hotels and resorts offer sun decks and swimming pools, though not as many as on the Kohala and Kona Coasts.

Also popular in this area are charming inns and B&Bs. One remote inn sits in the middle of a lush, 22-acre property, about 15 minutes away from downtown Hilo. This gorgeous facility features its own waterfalls and bamboo garden, and plenty of space for hiking. Another B&B offers authentic, Victorian Era styling dating back to the 19th century, surrounding palm and mango trees, and a large veranda on which to rock back and forth in complete comfort. And, of course, as you might expect, Hawaiian B&Bs offer delicious breakfasts made from fresh, locally-grown ingredients.

As you can tell, there are quite a few choices when it comes to picking an accommodation on Hawaii’s Big Island. From facilities either small or large, in settings either lush or beachy, the hotels, resorts, inns, and B&Bs are designed to cater to any budget or personal preference.
